Veterinary Protocol and Administrative Steps About Animal Transport to Sri Lanka

Before departure, your pet must have:

• A pet passport. Your vet will be able to provide you with one
• A microchip for identification purposes
• All their vaccinations must be up-to-date. The vaccine against rabies must date back more than 30 days, but less than a year prior to the departure.

For the transportation of domestic animals (dogs and cats), the process is the same:

• You will need to apply for an import permit from the “Department of Animal Production and Health”.
• Now your departure date has been set, and you have the permit, you just have to get a certificate of good health from your vet within the 7 days prior to departure (it is issued as a document separate to the passport)
• Please note that cats and dogs are subjected to a minimum of 3 days quarantine observation at Katunayake Quarantine Station, since July 2016.
