The minimum time period between the start of formalities to be carried out and your pet’s trip to Sweden is at least one month.
VETERINARY PROTOCOL AND ADMINISTRATIVE STEPS REGARDING ANIMAL TRANSPORT TO SWEDEN
To be able to take your cat or your dog into Sweden, they need to:
- Have a Pet Passport,
- Be identifiable through a microchip (implanted before the vaccine against rabies),
- Have all of their vaccinations up-to-date,
- Be vaccinated against rabies (vaccine dating more than 30 days, but less than a year prior to departure),
- Have made an application for an import permit (only in certain cases).

In addition, for transporting your pet into Sweden, your vet will need to issue an “International Certificate of Good Health”, within ten days prior to the big departure. The certificate must be certified and stamped by the Departmental Directorate for Public Protection (the “DDPP”) in your region.
