MOVING PETS TO SINGAPORE: HOW IS THIS DONE?

Taking your dog, cat or another pet to Singapore requires strict adherence to importation rules required by the Singapore authorities.

Your pet will not be able to enter Singapore if they have not been vaccinated and put into quarantine for 120 days, failing which they will be returned to their point of origin on the next available flight.

The rules for importing an animal into Singapore differ according to the species. Here you will find advice for organising the transportation of your dog and/or cat which is not necessarily applicable to the transportation of birds, reptiles or rodents by aeroplane… Contact us about this!!

The minimum time period between the start of formalities to be carried out and your pet’s trip is at least four months.

VETERINARY PROTOCOL AND ADMINISTRATIVE STEPS REGARDING ANIMAL TRANSPORT TO SINGAPORE

Key advice for importing your pet to Singapore:

  • The implantation of a microchip is compulsory (tattoos are not permitted in Singapore!)
  • Book a place in the quarantine facility in Singapore (there is no choice, no matter what the applicable importation protocol is, your pet will need to adhere to a quarantine period before making the most of their new home),
  • Obtain an import licence from the AVA
  • Vaccinations.

For dogs:

  • Rabies
  • Canine Distemper,
  • Canine Hepatitis,
  • Canine Parvovirus.

These last three vaccinations must be done at least 14 days prior to departure.

For cats:

  • Rabies
  • Feline Calicivirus,
  • Feline Rhinotracheitis,
  • Feline Panleukopenia.

These last three vaccinations must be done at least 14 days prior to departure.

Regarding the rabies vaccination, two importation protocols exist for Singapore for the dogs and cats arriving from Category C countries (particularly France), which will make the quarantine period in Singapore increase from 10 to 30 days.

Category C1: – 10 days –

Dogs and cats need to be vaccinated against rabies, with a vaccine with current validity, recognised by the AVA, dating to at least four months prior to the departure date (first vaccination or booster).

It is compulsory to have a rabies antibody titration done dating more than a month following the first injection and less than six months before the date of transportation.  This must be done in an EU-approved laboratory.

Following the titration, the pet will have to have a second injection done, dating not more than one month prior to departure.

Category C2: – 30 days –

Dogs and cats need to be vaccinated against rabies, with a vaccine with current validity, recognised by the AVA, dating to at least three months prior to the departure date (first vaccination or booster).

A rabies antibody titration dating more than a month following the injection and less than six months before the date of departure must be done.

  • The two anti-parasite treatments – internal and external – are to be done between two and seven days prior to departure
  • A certificate of good health specific to Singapore, called the “Veterinary Certificate for the Importation of Dogs and Cats to Singapore, for Category C countries” is to be obtained, issued within the seven days prior to the departure date.

All these documents need to be certified by the Departmental Directorate for Public Protection (the “DDPP”)
