MOVING PETS TO NEW ZEALAND: HOW IS THIS DONE?

Now that your big departure for New Zealand has been confirmed, here are the steps that you’ll need to follow for transporting your pet.

By choosing the PREMIUM package, we can take care of all, or some of these steps for you.

The minimum time period between the start of formalities to be carried out and your pet’s trip to New Zealand is at least five months.

VETERINARY PROTOCOL AND ADMINISTRATIVE STEPS REGARDING ANIMAL TRANSPORT TO NEW ZEALAND

To take your dog or cat to New Zealand, you will need:

VETERINARY PROTOCOL

DOGS

CATS

A compulsory microchip

Leptospirosis

Brucellosis

Rabies*

Feline Enteritis

Feline Rhinotracheitis

Feline Calicivirus

Rabies*

VACCINES dating more than 30 days, but less than a year prior to departure

A rabies titration (blood test) dating less than 24 months and more than 3 months prior to departure

First anti-parasite treatment within 30 days prior to departure

Nematodes + Cestoda + ticks + fleas)

14 days in between

the two treatments

Second anti-parasite treatment within two days prior to departure

Nematodes + Cestoda + ticks + fleas)

Tests against:

 

Brucella Canis (within 16 days prior to departure)

ONLY FOR DOGS

 

*if it concerns the first vaccination against rabies, you need to wait for six months from that date, before transporting your pet.

On the administrative side, you will need:

  • An import permit

An application can be made from the MPI (Ministry for Primary Industries).

  • Booking quarantine

Regulations in New Zealand stipulate a ten-day quarantine period from arrival on the territory.

The final veterinary documents before making the big trip:

  • Certificate A is to be filled in by your vet within four days prior to departure
  • Certificate B is to be done on the day of departure (this second certificate will be issued by ourselves)

All the documents must be stamped and certified by the Departmental Directorate for Public Protection (the “DDPP“) in your region, including certificate A.

With all these procedures followed, your furry companion is finally ready for their trip to New Zealand!
