Veterinary Protocol and Administrative Steps Regarding Animal Transport to Mexico
To transport your live animal to Mexico, you will need to follow veterinarian recommandations before your departure:
- A pet passport. Your veterinarian will be able to provide you with one
- A microchip
- All their vaccinations must be up-to-date. The vaccine against rabies must date more than 30 days, but less than a year
- Rabies antibody titration. On receiving the result, an import permit application must be lodged to the Mexico official departments.

Other Important Information
The departure date has been set, you have the permit. You now just have to get a certificate of good health from your veterinarian issued within seven days prior to departure.
The pet passport and certificate of good health must be legalized by the Departmental Directorate for Public Protection (the “DDPP”) in your region. They will stamp the documents with their official stamp to approve them.
Once all the paperwork has been legalized by the DDPP, your loyal companion is ready to begin their new life in Mexico !
Relocation of Your Animal as Carry-On or Checked Baggages
The animal transport circumstances depends on the stature and the destination country but some countries approve hold only live animal transport.
For a travel in the hold, your pet need to be in an IATA (International Air Transport Association) approved cage. Your animal must also be able to turn around, lie down and stand up in the cage to allow him to travel in good conditions. The entry to the plane can be refused if the cage is not big enough.
Please keep in mind that if he doesn’t travel with you, your pet will always be in a suitable light and temperature place prepared for live animals.
