What is a scam, fraud, pet scam?

Beware of ads on the internet that are too good to be true!

There are many scams carried out on the internet involving pets. Scammers take advantage of Internet users’ love for animals to scam their victims. These scams affect many classified ad sites known to everyone but also social networks. Dog scams are the most common but they concern all types of animals: cats, dogs, horses, etc.

The method is simple: the ads offer the sale of a purebred dog or a purebred cat at unbeatable prices. A donation can also be offered where only the transport costs are your responsibility. Obviously, once the fees have been paid, no more news from the owners and the animals never arrive!

Scammers use endearing photos to fool victims who are sensitive to the charms of our four-legged friends. The reasons for the sale or donation are often the same: an urgent transfer abroad which requires taking care of the animal, or that its owners no longer have the time to take care of it.

Once the amounts have been paid by the victims, the scammers do not hesitate to again claim additional costs for customs. Additionally, scammers use fake pet transport agencies to send money to.

Air Transport Animal will never ask you for payment for sending an animal from abroad, moreover, requested by a third party.
